BIG BEAR CITY, CA - Part 1 ....DAILY FRONT PORCH

Oh boy did I take tons of photos last week when we went up to Big Bear Lake, the City area and then down highway 38 over to Oak Glen (famous for their apple farms).  I couldn't easily locate the series of photos I intended to post today, the ones of the house across the street from the pink house I posted yesterday, but when I find them they will be put up.

Just some shots from a day out last weekend and the traffic getting into the city was pretty congested but we found some side roads to get us through the touristy part and on to the outskirts of Big Bear City......... and then hwy 38 which was a beautiful drive.

(ALL PHOTOS taken from a moving car )...We never did get out to walk that day - just too many people.

Several views of this one as I clicked the camera quickly to try and catch a bit of the front porch deck of this small mobile home.  The red umbrella caught my eye which is why I was photographing it.  It looks very charming to me, sitting in this pretty setting.   This was on the main road going through to the Village (tourist) area of Big Bear.

We finally found some side road to get away from traffic and make it over to Big Bear City.

Along the way I got some more front porch shots.  There are so many cabins for rent up in Big Bear - from a lot of our drives in the past - i think Big Bear's population is as much short rentals on holidays as it is full timers.

This whole area seems to be filled with rental cabins.

On the open road now going to Big Bear City -   Beautiful skies - great feeling up there on Labor Day Weekend.

Big Bear Lake is really big but the one end of it (not sure what it is called)  is now devoid of water.
I'm taking these out of the driver's side window trying not to block Mike's view while he is driving.  This whole area dividing the houses you see from the trees in the foreground in the winter is water.  We need a ton of rain to fill this part of the lake up.  It wasn't bad the first winter we moved to the mountains - and I got many photos of pelicans and ducks swimming in the lake.  I imagine the people who live in the houses are missing their lake views!

Houses as we drive through Big Bear City on to hwy 38.

More little front porches.  These are just a few I photographed along the way.

Made it through traffic and beginning our drive down hwy 38 (a beautiful hwy) and even though I heard there was a big forest fire in July, I really didn't see evidence of it - so it must have been deep in the forest beyond my view.

and on to Oak Glen ...
