STRAIGHT ROAD IN MY NEIGHBHOOD

A couple of photos from an area that reminds me of a little area Huckleberry Finn might live in.  The area isn't on the banks of the Mississippi, but is pretty close to our lake.  All the little houses are different - some very nice, some kind of shanty like (really not that many of those on the street).  I really like to walk here as it feels like if I was a kid - it would have made for some wonderful memories.  It sits really close to the little town and one main street coming into the area is just down and behind the post office and a shop full of treasures, ice cream and candy, curios and toys - just about everything you could want - an upscale version of a "5 and dime" or a Woolworths.

From your description, I do believe I know where you are talking about and I definitely remember being in the five and dime type store. Very fifties feel to that area.

It looks like a sweet neighborhood, Sandy! And some made of logs?

Definitely a 50s feel to that town and the neighborhoods right behind the main street. That's why I like it here.

Hi Dewena - I guess there are a few made of logs - In the hills right above there - many more are made of logs, which some day would be nice to live in one I think. Thanks for the visit.

Beautiful photos! The light makes some of these houses seem almost like they are glowing.

Lovely photos, Sandy, and I love the stone wall in your header! Your mention of F.W. Woolworth brought back some very fond childhood memories for me. I loved that store! They had everything from pet supplies to wool, and they even sold goldfish, budgies and canaries and turtles, too! I loved their long brown lunch counter where you could have a sandwich or hot meal, coffee, soft drink or milk. I could hear the budgies chirping away as I ate. I really miss those stores! :) And the Collie is adorable.

What an adorable street!!!!!

And someone who actually remembers that there were once "5 & dimes". And Woolworths. :-)

HI Daisy - I love the street to walk on partly because of the trees that line it - Straight Road has a lot of trees and at any given time of the day there is usually someone out walking their dog - it's one of the few straight level roads in the whole area of Crestline - most of us have to walk down hill to go anywhere and then back up...ugh - I get tired of hills. The light comes through the trees and lights up some of the houses.

thank you JoAnn.

thanks Tammy - I love it - ...I'll be doing a post here and there with photos of the little town, along with more houses from that area. I loved Woolworths - My sis and I would ride the bus up to Woolworths. The store was magic and I always loved two things especially - perfumes and costume jewelry.

wow Linda - loved yoiur memory of Woolworths - I usually got a milk shake and sat at the counter. Did you also have a "Grant's" 5 and dime - we had one here in So Cal -. Did they really sell budgies? I just don't remember that - they probably did but I was enchanted with the costume jewelry so looking at that I wouldn't have heard anything but "bling" ...

I'll come over and tell you about the font - i have no idea how it looks to others - i'm always thinking it might look too big.
