A COUPLE WEEKS AGO WE WERE IN A SMALL TOWN NEAR TACOMA

On a recent week long vacation to visit my oldest son and his family - I was so taken with their garden and property.  In my visits to different states (in the northwest and southwest)  I have to say that Washington seems to be the greenest - everything is so green especially on their property.  I love their garden and enjoyed meals with many veggies freshly harvested.

Here are a few pics of just the front part and not all of the front area of the yard.  They have forests to play in and the only problem with that is the brambles (thorns) from all of the blackberry bushes.  I had so much fun hanging out with the kids and going on little hikes and visiting Tacoma and Seattle, Port Orchard, Gig Harbor, Vashon Island... and a few other places.  Last year they planted also, 15 fruit trees in the front yard.  They are pretty much self sustaining, getting water from their well, propane whole house generator in case of power loss, growing their own food and many more great ideas for living off the grid if needed.

I will eventually post more photos of this amazing garden and surrounding areas - as my way of keeping track each time I visit of what is new.  The garden is mostly fruit and veggies - only a few areas were annuals were planted for flowers.

There whole five areas is bordered and surrounded by different types of berry bushes that grow wild - blackberries, salmon berries to name a few.  My daughter in law makes her own jams and jellies.  We ate SO healthy when we were there.  I do think I want to move in!!

Since I visited last year they have added a greenhouse and storage sheds.

This little structure below is the well house.  The trees in the background are where one part of the forest is to hike into.

It is beautiful and so great to see someone living on their own and not depending on stores, etc.

Lots of changes from last year! It looks so wonderful and it kind of looks like a lot of work to keep all that going but well worth the effort when it comes to clean eating, etc.
