Every state has their positives and negatives - but Southern California is for the most part so awesome in the winter. Even in the mountains today we will be in the mid 60's at least. I have to say though, you who post your snow photos - i love looking at them and I know from living in the mountains fresh snow is so beautiful. Hope you keep posting more snow photos (Lorraine, Daisy, Tessa, and whoever else I may have left out).
We sat here for awhile enjoying the weather - taken at botanical gardens.
Lissa at the lake. My "Dogs of Lake Gregory" file is growing and soon I'll have quite a variety of photos to pick from when I hopefully do my sketches of all the dogs I meet along the way.
Strange thing - to me the woman walking this dog Lissa, looked like my mother would have looked had she lived beyond 60. The woman might have been 70, not sure. When I was growing up, we had a standard poodle like this one - named Pepe. Just an odd little thing I noticed yesterday.
On Superbowl we went up to the Rim Sports bar top of town - it was nice and the new owners have cleaned the place up and got rid of the druggies that use to hang out around there. It's more of a place for people from about 40 up to our age and beyond. Nice people, nice place to stop in for a beer. We decided since we never do anything at night, last night we went up for Open Mike to hear if the town has any talent. We had a beer and were only there about an hour and a half and wanted to come home - after all it was 9:30 - too late for me anymore to be out on the town.
One of the singers looked so much like my brother who passed away years ago. He only liked like him from far away - up close not so much. He had a good voice and sang Johnny Cash type songs.
So it seemed I saw two family members last night.
This is Desi, the other dog with Lissa.

OFF THE MOUNTAIN
We took out for the day and went to botanical gardens, one of my favorite neighborhoods and it was 78 degrees! Wow, that felt good - no jacket and beautiful scenery - things were blooming and it all made for a good day.
On the way home I got to stop at Z pizza - a little pizza place by Target right near where I use to live, order my penne chicken w/pesto pasta I love and sit outside with a Newcastle and tolerate the busy shopping area (well that wasn't so great). Z-pizza sits inbetween a Starbucks on one side and another little strip mall type restaurant on the other side. Each one has an outside eating area - and all three were playing their own music - it kind of clashed and made my dining experience somewhat irritating - but the food was great.
After the arboretum and before my dinner we drove through Claremont and I took a few photos.
My first ever photo of a Spicebush Butterfly - which pleased me!
It was a high contrast day - not my favorite for taking photos but a few turned out okay.
Three photos of the same area just because the lighting looks nice and I'd like to spend a day on that bench sketching but that won't happen.
Just a couple houses that caught my eye while driving through Claremont. When I win the lottery, I will have a home in the mountains, a home in Claremont and a home at the central coast. That ought to do it.
And I'm happy I didn't post ducks today. Another warm and beautiful day up here - in mid 60's or so. Today will be some yard work I think and then a walk at the lake. I should stay home and clean but i'll save that for the weekend when the clouds and chance of rain comes in. Northern and Central California are looking at an atmospheric river of rain to pummel them with lots of inches.
and to add to this I HAVE to put this video up - i love it.

ONE MORE POST BEFORE I SIGN OFF FOR THE DAY
What can I say - more ducks - my focus is on the birds at the lake and small birds are rarely seen right now - it's always ducks or seagulls. Soon I'll change topics.
At the lake yesterday some pretty ducks were flying around.
cropped the two top ones out of this one below - to show up better.
She landed somewhat gracefully.

SUNSETS AND SKIES
The last several days we have had some beautiful sunsets. The first three were on Saturday night - and the next were yesterday at about 4:00 - not quite sunset but the skies were interesting due to the smog down in the valley.
Driving up at the rim yesterday we saw some pretty interesting skies.
Will be down the hill in awhile so I'm hoping for more beautiful skies later in the day coming home.

PHOTOS FROM OUR WALK YESTERDAY
I've been taking so many photos as the weather has warmed up and we are out quite a bit. Our weather has finally warmed up to the mid 60's and I'm happy happy!
This black phoebe has been described as a "dapper flycatcher" - i just think it's a really cute bird.
The waters are still reflecting more golds and greens than blues which makes me happy ....once summer comes - blue and green and high contrast which makes for boring pics.
I enjoyed watching these two coots for a few minutes - just can't see enough of these feet - their fun to watch and in so many of my photos i see them look like they are smiling. Not so much in these.
Below is a new duck at the lake - I haven't identified it yet.
Cormorant drying his wings.
Another black phoebe
Today we have reading group at the lake - due to the warm weather we are now meeting several times a week. I must go pick out what book I'll read to them today.
I chose One Duck Stuck

..."This glorious story is perfect for a muddy theme! One poor duck gets stuck and all his friends come to help, but one by one they fall in too. It’s great for counting up to 10 and for predicting what will come next....
