And speaking of leaves - ...This is my second favorite stage of a tree (bare) - first is fall leaf color... I have a tree right outside the window near the table where we eat. I can see so many more birds in the trees and this activity/hobby/passion of watching birds takes on a whole new dimension. I love it.
When walking by this house one day five plus years ago - I knew then that I would love to live in the mountains. Of course I remember that - all conditions came together to form... a perfect day - the chill in the air but the warmth of the sun, the house, the absolute cozy feeling I had when seeing it - the scenery around it - a mix of mountain but also some desert plants, a feeling of a totally different lifestyle than the one I was living at the time. This just suggested "Peace" to me - in my world which felt a little chaotic. I can still remember the day and my feelings when I see this pic - AND I hadn't run across it in over five years but's it a vivid memory.

Sandy, the way you wrote about this, your knowing where you would want to live and why and the perfect day, is the same way I feel about the NC mountains. Whenever we would get off the Blue Ridge Parkway any time we saw a little town I would want to live there, it felt like my true home. I think places do call to us. Maybe it was no accident that we have now lived for almost 25 years in a valley surrounded by tall ridges, not NC but as close in feeling as I could find.
That house above is so inspiring!

P.S. You haven't watched Mad Men? You're in for a treat. I have to admit though that I often got aggravated at almost all the characters, thinking "Won't someone just behave, please!"
haha ..."won't someone just behave, please"... I use to thnk that about my own family - well i still do at times. Loved reading about your desires also. I get what you mean about being surrunded by tall mountain ridges - the house we lived in for almost 30 years was right in the foothills of the mountains. I have photos of them from both angles - being in them now and looking down to where i use to live (general area) and looking up at them from my back yard. I love the coast and that is a dream some day too. have a great weekend.
About Mad Men - I have read so many people talk about the series that I just have to watch it. I have so many series now on my watch list - I could get snowed in all winter and be fine! No, take that back - i really don't mean that - ...maybe just a little snow.
I recall you talking about this cabin/house and I definitely know that feelling of thinking I could live in a particular house or area and then having it come true! (area anyway). We've dropped into the 50s at night lately, so that's a good thing. But still at around 80 degrees and going down to low 70's according to one source with five chances of rain coming up. I'm not holding my breath about that. Then I look at AccuWeather and it only shows 80s and NO rain.
That's a neat art activity to do with kids. I like the way those turned out.
The house is beautiful, and I love all the stonework.
I keep wanting to do the leaf thing - but i know it will be a mess! oh well. I just went by the stone wall again this weekend - it's in Lake Arrowhead - i love it.
