FRONT PORCH COVINA CALIFORNIA

From age 10 to 19 - approximately - I grew up in Covina.  We moved from Kansas City to Los Angeles where we lived about 6 months while my father was beginning his job at Los Angeles Police Department - and within 6 months got the heck out of the city and into a suburb which at that time was about ...45 minutes or so to LA (way before big rush hour traffic jams).

I still like to go to Covina for walks through various neighborhoods but my favorite walks around there are always near the downtown area of Covina where they have more of the historical homes.  (We lived in a new tract where they had cleared out orange groves but if I remember correctly most houses in those new tracts would still have one or two orange trees that had been left standing.)

Covina is approximately an hour from where I live now.

In my mind, as a young kid, only the people with money could live near the downtown area.

Anyway, here are a few shots of a front porch that must have caught my eye back in January this year when we were taking a walk in the area.

I notice I'm attracted to french doors.  I love the one on the porch in this pic.   Where we use to live from 1984 up to 2010 (raising our family)  when we sold....I realize now in counting them again we ended up having 5 sets of french doors in our house - that's how much I loved them.

Not only is that a beautiful house, but I see why you like it so much (and so do I). Doesn't it, except for the colors, kind of remind you of Grandpa's house from the front? That big old porch and casement windows, and just the overall craftsman type house?

French doors.... they are lovely, no doubt about it. but I am a wimp... I would worry about them not being able to secure well.

no, it's not as if I live in a crime ridden area. -grin- but I'm still a wimp... In our nice city.

but they are lovely!!!! imagine how many films have made use of them!!!! a lovely lady, opening the french doors and stepping out of a great inner room, into a fantastic garden. :-))))

yes it does remind me of his house in a way. Hey how about u and me taking a trip to Kansas or ...Tombstone, Arizona - that would be fun.

Once in awhile when we would leave for several days there was always a nagging worry about that many doors - we actually had 9 doors to the outside altogether and I often kept my fingers crossed that no one would get into the house using one of them. Now we just have 3 doors so that feels better (in a way).

That is a beautiful home and front porch. I would love to have an orange tree. I think that would be so cool.

Beautiful.

We've got river rock on the front of our house. When we bought the house, I wasn't fond of it and figured I'd end up replacing it with something else eventually (ours is artificial, man-made rock facing - not real rock like your photo). But I've grown to love it. Now it stays!
